Plantversify is committed to respecting privacy and transparency. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection of personal information and data. It covers the Plantversify App, on both iPhone and Android, and This Website (Plantversify.com).
Most of what follows applies to both versions of the app. Where the two differ, the section is marked (Android only) or (iPhone only).
Everything you record while using the app — the plants you eat, your meals, your weekly target and your settings — is stored on your device only. It is never sent to us, and it is never shared with any third party. We have no accounts, no sign-in and no server holding your records, so there is nothing for us to look at even if we wanted to.
If you use your device's own backup — iCloud on iPhone, or Google backup on Android — your app data may be included in it. That backup belongs to you and sits in your own Apple or Google account, not ours.
When you scan a product label or a piece of text, the photograph and the text within it are read on your device. Images are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and the app has no access to your photo library — only to the camera, while you are actually scanning.
When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number itself is sent to Open Food Facts, an independent food database, so that the product's ingredients can be looked up. A barcode number describes a product, not a person: nothing about you or your device is sent with it.
(Android only) Scanning on Android uses Google's ML Kit scanning technology. As part of this, Google receives basic technical details about how the scan performed, such as your phone model. Google does not receive the image or the text. This is part of Google's scanning technology and cannot be switched off while scanning is used. On iPhone, scanning uses Apple's own on-device technology and no third party is involved.
On Android you may choose to share Usage data, which helps us understand which parts of the app people use and where they run into difficulty. This is off by default. Nothing is collected unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off again at any time in Settings › Privacy.
If you turn it on, we collect anonymous statistics such as which screens are opened, when a scan is started or saved, your app language, the region your phone is set to, and broad ranges rather than exact figures — for example whether you have created a few custom plants or many. It is collected using Google Analytics for Firebase and is tied to a randomly generated installation identifier, not to you. If you turn Usage data off, that identifier is discarded, so turning it on again later starts afresh.
On Android you may also choose to share Diagnostic data, which tells us when the app has crashed so that we can fix it. This is also off by default and can be changed at any time in Settings › Privacy.
If you turn it on, a crash report is sent using Firebase Crashlytics. It contains technical details of the failure, your device model and operating system version, your app version, and the screen you were on when it happened. It does not contain your plant records. If you turn Diagnostic data off, any reports still waiting to be sent are deleted.
The iPhone version does not currently collect Usage data or Diagnostic data at all. We expect to offer the same two optional choices on iPhone later this year, and this policy will be updated when we do.
Plantversify contains no advertising. We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not build advertising profiles, and no data from the app is used for advertising by us or by anyone else.
Premium features are bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google, and we never see your payment details. The app records whether you hold Premium, and on which plan, so that it knows what to unlock.
Because your records are held on your device rather than by us, you remain in control of them. Deleting the app removes them. Turning off Usage data or Diagnostic data stops any further collection immediately and, as described above, discards the installation identifier and any unsent crash reports.
This website does not collect any personal data from visitors. This website is designed to provide information only without the need for any personal data collection.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
